A big question that clients have about lash extensions is: Does getting a lash extension treatment ruin the natural lash?
No (When Applied Properly)
One of the most important factors to consider is the length and weight of the lash extensions. A properly qualified and trained lash artist will know the safe lengths and weights that your natural lashes are able to hold.
The length of the lash extension can only be 2 – 3mm longer than the length of your natural lashes. If the extensions are more than 3mm longer than your natural lash, they can cause your natural lash to fall out prematurely.
Lash extensions also come in various thickness, which can change the look of the extensions when they’re applied. Like the length, the thickness of the natural lashes need to be considered to ensure that the extensions aren’t took heavy.
When both the length and the thickness of the extensions are properly considered, lash extensions are very safe to have applied
Isolation Is Key
As natural lashes grow out and shed, they do so at varying rates. Lashes that are right beside each other may be at different stages of this cycle.
Isolation refers to the lash artist applying only one extension or fan of extensions to each natural lash. If an extension is placed on several natural lashes, the varying shedding rate will cause tugging while the extension sheds one natural lash but not the other.
With thicker extensions, or volume fans, this can cause the lashes to become damaged. The natural lashes will begin growing in thinner and smaller, or may not even grow at all.
Great lash artists know and understand the importance of isolation. Miyo Lash provides lash training, and isolation is one of the most important skills we teach our students. If your lash artist is doing a great job with isolation and retention of lashes – let others know! I love it when awesome lash artists get to put their art into practice 👏
