At Miyo Lash, we are often asked about the difference between strip lashes and lash extensions. We, of course, favor lash extensions – but we’ll explain the difference in this post. Feel free to share it with your clients for their information 😃
First – Lash Extensions
Lash extensions are individual lashes, or grouped into fans of extensions. These extensions are then applied to the clients natural lashes.
The great thing about lash extensions is that they last weeks, before needing to be filled. A lash artist who properly isolates the extensions, and uses a quality adhesive, will result in a longer retention time for thier clients’ lashes. Lash extensions also need to be cleaned and brushed daily in order to assist with retention.
Lash artists can give clients different looks and styles by using various lengths and thicknesses. For example, a cat eye look can be achieved by applying the shortest lengths in the inner corner of the eye, with the extensions being longer towards the outer corner. The Doll Eye look is acheived by placing the shorter extensions on both the inner and out corners, with the longer extensions in the middle of the eye.
Lash artists can also place one or many extensions on each natural lash, resulting in a natural look, or a very dramtic and fluffy appearance with volume fans.
Now Strip Lashes
These are very affordable for short term use. Strip lashes have a strip with extensions applied along the entire lash line.
They can be bought at your local beauty supply store, drug store or at Walmart. There are different styles to choose from and with practice can be applied fairly quickly.
The strips can be worn numerous times for about 20-25 wears. You do need to remove them everyday as they can’t be left on for several days. One disadvantage about lash strips is that if there is not enough glue on the corners they will start lifting and become troublesome.
Strip lashes are a great temporary alternative to lash extensions, but for more lengthy use I definitely recommend extensions.
